Premarital Therapy In North Carolina
You’ve planned the wedding. Now it’s time to prepare for the marriage.
At Monarch Grove Therapy, we combine the research-informed PREPARE/ENRICH assessment with our clinical expertise as marriage and family therapists to help you better understand your relationship, strengthen your connection, and build a strong foundation for marriage.
❋Research-Informed Assessment: PREPARE/ENRICH is one of the most widely researched relationship assessment programs, offering a structured way to explore your relationship's strengths and areas for growth before marriage.
❋ Personalized to Your Relationship: Your assessment can be tailored to your unique circumstances, with specialized versions addressing areas such as faith, military relationships, and adoption or fostering.
❋ Facilitated by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist:Preparing for marriage involves more than discussing your hopes for the future. As an LMFT, I bring specialized clinical training in relationships, communication, family dynamics, and conflict resolution to help you understand the patterns you bring into marriage, navigate difficult conversations, and build skills for a healthy, lasting partnership.
❋ Faith informed, if you choose:For couples who want faith to be part of their marriage preparation, we can integrate Christian beliefs and values into our work. Prefer a secular approach? We'll focus on your relationship goals without a faith component.
What Will We Discuss?
-
We will focus on how partners express their thoughts, feelings, and needs, as well as how effectively they listen to one another. The assessment evaluates assertiveness and active listening, and this section addresses vital aspects of affection, emotional closeness, and physical intimacy, helping couples bridge communication gaps and build a deeper, more meaningful emotional connection.
We will focus on your sexual relationship and physical intimacy. The assessment evaluates your mutual satisfaction with affection, sexual expression, and emotional closeness, helping you talk openly about your physical bond, desires, and expectations to build deeper connection and comfort with one another.
-
We will focus on how disagreements are handled to support relationship longevity. The assessment utilizes a structured Ten Step Model for resolving conflict so couples can break defensive habits and find mutually satisfying compromises. Because conflict often stems from unstated expectations, this section also evaluates how couples navigate daily routines, manage the division of household labor, and align on relationship roles.
-
We will focus on money habits and expectations, which are among the most common sources of friction for couples. This section examines spending patterns, saving strategies, debt management, and the underlying meaning of money for each individual.
-
We will focus on how internal and external pressures take a toll on relationship satisfaction. The assessment uses the Personal Stress Profile to help partners pinpoint specific life or career stressors to build shared coping strategies. For couples who have or plan to have children, this section extends into parenting alignment by evaluating discipline styles and balancing parental roles.
-
We will focus on the unique traits and family backgrounds each individual brings into the relationship. The assessment maps out individual personalities using the SCOPE model and explores family of origin issues to see how childhood dynamics influence current habits. Crucially, this section addresses spiritual beliefs, helping couples navigate how their shared or differing values shape their life decisions together.
