Couples Therapy in North Carolina

Relationships hold some of the messiest and most meaningful parts of our lives.

The person you love most may also be the person who knows exactly how to push your buttons. You can care deeply about each other and still get stuck in patterns that leave you feeling frustrated, misunderstood, or disconnected. Sometimes the hardest conversations are the ones that matter most, and sometimes it can be difficult to know how to have them without ending up in the same place.

Couples therapy is a space for the messy, meaningful stuff. The conversations you keep avoiding. The things you wish your partner understood. The patterns you both want to change but haven't quite figured out how to. The transitions that are changing your relationship as you grow together.

You don't have to be in crisis to make space for your relationship. Therapy can be an opportunity to slow down, get curious about each other, and be more intentional about the life you're building together.

My Approach To Couples Therapy

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I received specialized graduate training in relationships, family systems, and the ways our relationships shape us. That means I’m not just looking at what’s happening within each of you individually, I’m also paying close attention to what’s happening between you.

Every person brings their own history into a relationship. The way you were raised, the relationships you experienced growing up, and what you learned about communication, conflict, love, and emotional safety can all influence how you show up with your partner today. We’ll explore those experiences with curiosity and compassion, while also paying attention to the dance between you- how one person responds, how the other reacts, and how that pattern can keep repeating even when neither of you wants it to.

Both of your experiences matter. My role is to help you understand each other more clearly, slow down the patterns that keep you stuck, and create space for more effective communication, emotional connection, and meaningful change.

My approach draws from Attachment-based therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Gottman-informed interventions. Together, we’ll work to understand your relationship patterns, strengthen communication, build emotional connection, navigate conflict, and develop practical tools for repairing after difficult moments.

Couples Therapy

You love each other. That doesn’t mean relationships are always easy.

Even strong relationships go through seasons where communication feels harder, the same arguments keep happening, or you find yourselves feeling more disconnected than you want to be. Couples therapy gives you and your partner a space to slow down, understand what is happening between you, and work toward a healthier, more connected relationship.

Whether you’re navigating communication problems, recurring conflict, emotional distance, intimacy concerns, trust or infidelity, parenting differences, family dynamics, or a major life transition, couples counseling can help you understand the patterns underneath the problem rather than simply trying to resolve the argument in front of you.

Couples therapy isn’t only for relationships in crisis. You can come to marriage counseling because you want to repair something that has been difficult, learn how to navigate a new season together, or simply invest in a relationship that matters to you. The goal isn’t a perfect relationship. It’s having the communication, connection, and tools to navigate real life together.

If you’re looking for couples therapy or marriage counseling in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, or anywhere in North Carolina, Monarch Grove Therapy offers virtual couples counseling to help you build a stronger, more connected relationship.

Premarital Counseling

You’ve planned the wedding. Now it’s time to prepare for the marriage.

There’s so much to prepare for before a wedding: the venue, the invitations, the flowers, the seating chart, and every detail in between. But one of the most important things you’re preparing for is the life you’ll build together.

Premarital counseling gives you and your partner the opportunity to have meaningful conversations before you’re married, strengthen your communication, and build a strong foundation for your future together. In premarital therapy, we’ll talk about topics like communication and conflict, finances, family dynamics and boundaries, expectations and roles, intimacy, values, and the transitions that come with building a life together.
